Margaret M. Foster

Margaret M. Foster is a partner with Matushek Nilles LLC. She has more than 28 years of experience in the successful defense of asbestos personal injury and wrongful death claims.
Legal Experience: Margaret Foster concentrates her pratice on toxic torts. Much of her work has focused on the defense of product manufacturers, premises, contractors, and distributors in asbestos claims. She is a formidable opponent on behalf of her clients in asbestos litigation. Margaret’s clients place great confidence in her, as demonstrated by her extensive experience as the national coordinating counsel in toxic tort litigation with management and oversight responsibilities of the activities of local defense counsel. She also has valuable experience in federal multi-district litigation involving toxic torts.
Before turning her focus to law, Margaret worked as a speech pathologist. After she received her law degree, she worked as an attorney for the Illinois Appellate Court where she was responsible for reviewing cases and drafting prposed opinions and orders. Her appellate work gave her an inside perspective on how the judiciary functions, which has further enhanced her abilities as a defense lawyer. Prior to joining Matushek Nilles LLC, Ms. Foster was a partner with a well-respected Chicago defense firm.
Professional Associations and Activities: Ms. Foster has been an active member of the National Association of Women Lawyers for more than 20 years. She volunteers her time and energies to advance the cause of the rights of women and to support women entering into the practice of the law. Her efforts on behalf of women include holding the position of Illinois associate director with Women Everywhere: Partners in Service Project, Inc. The organization promotes education programs and community service projects to assist women and school-age girls throughout Chicago.
When not at work or volunteering in her community, Margaret enjoys the symphony, opera and travel. She is also a valued and regular contributor to newsletters and magazines of the National Association of Women Lawyers and the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois.

Education: Margaret Foster earned her Juris Doctor, with honors, from the University of Arkansas in 1988. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arkansas in 1979, and her Master of Science degree, with honors, from the University of Arkansas in 1980.
Admitted to Practice: Ms. Foster is admitted to practice before the Illinois Supreme Court, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin; the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana; and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
